32 Weeks!!

By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.

No big news for this week, we go to both the OB and the Perinatologist again tomorrow so we will get an update on Laiken then. As for us, just getting anxious to meet our baby girl. Our good friends LeAnn and Brandon just welcomed their son Brody into the world on Friday, 2/20/09 and our Blogger Buddies Ashley and Justin welcomed their son Carter on Tuesday, 2/24/09. All these babies make me so excited for ours and all of our other friends that follow!! Oh, and Roddy and I got to hang out with Jolie on Tuesday as well and man is she funny!! I was cracking up the whole time, I hope Laiken is as easy-going as Jolie!! Anyhoo, I will try to check back in tomorrow to give updates on what the doctors have to say about Little Laiken!!

31 Weeks!!

This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.

Here is what Laiken looks like inside of me now...although I am not sure if she is head down or not. A couple weeks ago I felt a little more pressure down low but not so much anymore, so I am not sure if she has gone head down yet. She has remained very active but now she gets shy and won't kick on command as often. I think she likes to tease her Daddy, I tell him it's his own fault though...he likes to shake my whole belly and yell "EARTHQUAKE!!!" teasing him is her payback!! =) We are planning on going shopping a little this weekend and hopefully get a few more decorations for Laiken's room, it is coming along nicely if I do say so myself!!

Doctor's Appoinments...yes, that is plural!!

We had two appointments today...it was supposed to be three but the chiropractor I was going to go to was apparently trying to rip us off by charging $350 for my first visit!! Luckily, Sam and Drew gave me the name of one who is only going to charge me $50 so now it's just a matter of finding the time!! Thanks Guys!!!

So off we went to our first Dr. visit with my OB, everything there looked great. We are up a couple more lbs. for a grand total of 14. Her heartbeat was nice and strong and my blood pressure and fundal measurement were right on target. We talked breifly about inducing, which I was told could be as early as 38 weeks now. Then it was off to my perinatologist, they did a growth scan and we were very pleased to find out that instead of measuring like a week and a half behind now she is only about 4 days behind. Dr. Thigpen was glad to hear that she had caught right back up. BTW, if anyone out there ever has to go to a peri. he is excellent!! Anyhow, he is going to start doing non-stress tests every week starting at our next appt. So all in all we got good news, oh and our chunky monkey from funky town weighed in at an estimated 3 lbs. 4 ozs!! Grow Laiken Grow!!!

30 Weeks!!

Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

29 Weeks!!

Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.

Roddy, my sister Lynzi, Roddy's mom aka Nana Bev and I went to do a 3D/4D sonogram this past weekend at Window to the Womb in Southlake and boy was it neat!! To be able to see her little face and everything that she was doing in there as she was doing it and feel it at the same time, I was completely overwhelmed. I didn't think I could possibly love her anymore than I already did but to see her smiling, blinking and playing with her hands, I think we all just fell in love with her all over again!! I highly recommend it for anyone who is thinking about it. I am working on editing the video they gave us so you can all get a peek of Laiken playing also!!

28 Weeks!!

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Our doctor's appt. went well today, I gained another 4 lbs. bringing my grand total to 11 lbs. Her heart rate was at 132, and I had some slight swelling in my ankles but the nurse said that is to be expected. I think my iron pills are helping with my energy levels, luckily. =) From now until 36 weeks we will be going to the doctor every two weeks! I am just shocked that we only have 12 more weeks!! Grow Laiken Grow!!
